I think they don’t want you to use that gate.
I think the owners have forgotten that that gate is there. The wrought iron work of the gate frame and posts is really well-done; it looks as if the gate’s field may be the work of a later hand. Looking at this isn’t quite the same as seeing a woman who unwittingly has tucked the hem of her skirt into its waistband, but it has a little of that skewed flavor.
